Delete your data
How to delete your TapIn Family account and the information in it, what happens when you do, and what we keep and why. This page also covers people who signed in with Facebook, Google or Microsoft.
1.Before you start
- Want a copy first? Ask for one in the same email. We send your copy before we delete anything.
- Shared matters. Deleting your account removes your access and the information you added. It does not delete the matter for the professionals or other account holders who have roles on it, and it does not reach copies your professional already holds in their own files.
- Professional accounts. If you hold a professional account, closing it can end your clients’ access to matters organized under your practice. Read sections 6 and 13 of the Terms of Service first and tell your clients.
2.How to request deletion
- Email [email protected] from the email address on your TapIn Family account, with the subject line Delete my data.
- Tell us what you want: your whole account deleted, or specific items; and whether you want a copy of your information first.
- We confirm it is really you. We reply to the address on the account and may ask you to sign in or to answer something only the account holder would know. We never ask for your password.
- We acknowledge your request by email and complete it within 30 days, as our Privacy Policy says.
- When deletion is complete, you receive a confirmation email. Keep it.
Never had an account? If you believe TapIn Family holds information about you because another account holder entered it — for example the other party in a matter — that information is part of their record, not yours, and is handled through them or through legal process. See section 4.
3.What we delete, and when
- Your account: name, email address, sign-in settings, and the link to any Facebook, Google or Microsoft account you signed in with.
- Your content: documents, financial records, notes, messages, calendars and family information you added. Content you shared with others stays with the people you shared it with, as the Terms explain.
- Connected financial accounts: the access token behind each connection is deleted at once, so nothing more is imported; the information already imported is deleted with your content.
Your access ends as soon as we confirm the request. We delete or de-identify the information within 90 days. Copies in backups are overwritten within a further 30 days.
4.What we keep, and why
We keep only what we must, for only as long as we must:
- information we are required by law to keep, or need to resolve a dispute, or that is under a legal hold;
- records of payments, which we must keep for accounting and tax purposes;
- the record that you accepted our Terms and Privacy Policy, and the access logs for your account, so that there is a record of what was agreed and who did what;
- information a professional has a separate duty to keep in their own client file — that copy is theirs, not ours; and
- information another account holder entered about you, which belongs to their record.
Where we keep something, we keep it on access-restricted storage and do not use it for anything else.
6.Deleting some things without closing your account
- Individual items — a document, an expense, a note — can be deleted where you added them.
- A connected financial account can be disconnected from the Account Registry; that deletes the access token and stops imports, and you can then delete the imported information.
- A professional’s access can be revoked from the matter’s sharing settings.
- AI processing for a matter can be switched off through its consent setting; ask your professional, or ask us.
If you cannot find a delete control for something, email us and we will do it for you.

Deletion and other requests about your data: [email protected]. Anything else: [email protected].
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may also contact the attorney general or privacy regulator in your state.
5.If you signed in with Facebook, Google or Microsoft
When you sign in with one of these providers we receive only your name, email address, a profile-picture link and the provider’s identifier for your account (Privacy Policy, section 3). Deleting your TapIn Family account under section 2 deletes all of it.
You can also remove TapIn Family’s permission on the provider’s side at any time:
Removing the permission stops future sign-ins. It does not delete the information already in your TapIn Family account. To delete that, follow section 2.
